Interior decor and furnishing for
a 5-room apartment in Istanbul
The clients had just acquired a freshly finished apartment, and my task was to create a furniture and decor layout that perfectly suited the lifestyles of the apartment's owners and their children. Despite working remotely with clients in another country, we seamlessly tackled every design detail.
Decor project
One key challenge was to design an interior with a neutral color palette and versatile style. This decision was driven by the clients' future plans to rent out the apartment. They wanted the freedom to update the interior and play with colors without the need for complex and costly renovations.
The decor project starts with defining the mood and interior style. This is necessary to determine the direction in which we will work and eliminate in advance all options that are not suitable for the interior. To do this, I create an interior mood board that includes selected references from the client and references that I choose to complement and reflect the interior vision that the client has.
The furniture layout plan is created based on the client's brief. We explore the nuances of their lifestyle, work, habits, hobbies, how the family likes to spend time, the frequency of guests. Using all this information, I develop 2-3 options for the apartment layout. The client then chooses the most suitable one, which we refine to perfection.
Neutral interiors can be boring and visually flat. To avoid this, I introduced several shades of one color into the interior to diversify the palette.
Additionally, monochromatic spaces come to life with various textures of wood and fabrics.
Decorative elements such as textured clay and dried flowers, along with accents like artwork, make the interior more diverse while maintaining a calm atmosphere.
This project showcases a blend of practicality and aesthetics, ensuring a timeless appeal that meets both current and future needs.
After finalizing the furnishings and budget for all rooms, I create a comprehensive shopping list of essential items for purchase, including furniture, rugs, decorative textiles, accessories, posters, and sometimes artwork.
The client receives a list with prices, quantities, and links for each item. All that remains is for them to place the order and await delivery. Once all items are received, I assist with the final arrangement and styling of the interior.
